The beginning
Moonstone arrived in 2023 as part of Adleen's expanding gemstone vocabulary. The fragrance reaches into a register that feels less declarative and more introspective, a composition that values resonance over flash. The opening moves warm and gently spiced, then resolves into something quieter and more meditative as the hours pass. Rather than performing a single tradition, Moonstone reads as a conversation between materials that belong to different aromatic lineages, pulling frankincense, oud, and patchouli into a shared structure without forcing any of them to dominate. The result is a scent that invites close attention, revealing new facets of itself each time you return to it.
The composition leans into a dialogue between frankincense and oud, two materials that anchor the fragrance at both ends of its arc. Frankincense appears twice in the pyramid, in the opening and the heart, acting as a through-line that holds the spice and resin architecture together. Meanwhile, patchouli appears twice as well, bridging the aromatic freshness of the heart with the earthy foundation of the base. The result is a structure that feels deliberate without being rigid.
The evolution
The first minutes are a conversation between cardamom, pink pepper, and saffron, with frankincense already threading through underneath. The spices land bright but not aggressive, more warming than biting. Nutmeg rounds the edges, adding a softness that keeps the opening from reading as sharp. Within the first half hour the lavender and vanilla begin to surface, pulling the composition into softer territory. The lavender here is aromatic rather than herbal, almost incense-adjacent, and the vanilla stays restrained. As the hours pass, the base takes over. Sandalwood and benzoin build warmth. Tonka bean adds a gourmand sweetness without tipping into dessert territory. Then the oud and leather arrive, not as a dramatic turn but as a slow fade-in, grounding the composition in something animalic and lived-in. Patchouli returns to anchor the earth.

Within the broader landscape of oud-and-leather orientals, Moonstone distinguishes itself through restraint: the spice is bright but not aggressive, the oud is present but not domineering, and the lavender-vanilla heart offers a softness many compositions in this family skip.
