The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Viktor&Rolf released this Christmas Edition in 2014 as a limited run of their signature Flowerbomb, dressed in a snowflake ornament for the holiday season. The bottle, wrapped in winter imagery, became a seasonal collectible for those drawn to its distinctive design. What set this particular Christmas Edition apart was the inclusion of osmanthus and tea in the opening, a pairing that gave the composition an unexpected character. The osmanthus note contributed a soft, apricot-like sweetness that felt warm and inviting, while the tea added a clean, mineral quality that provided contrast. Together they created an aromatic foundation that felt both familiar and fresh, inviting the wearer to discover how these notes would unfold against the familiar Flowerbomb structure.
The osmanthus-tea combination creates a distinctive opening. Osmanthus brings a soft, apricot-like sweetness with a honeyed quality that feels warm and inviting. Tea adds a clean, slightly bitter mineral quality that provides contrast to the sweetness. Together they create a top section that feels contemplative rather than celebratory, which makes the arrival of the floral heart more pronounced by contrast. The heart itself is classic Flowerbomb territory: jasmine and rose lead, orchid adds tropical cream, freesia brings freshness, and orange blossom provides sweet sophistication.
The evolution
The opening arrives bright and precise. Bergamot and osmanthus create an immediate sense of brightness before the tea arrives, adding a clean quality that follows. The tea provides a mineral clarity that works alongside the osmanthus sweetness. Then the florals arrive. The heart is where Flowerbomb earns its reputation. Jasmine and rose surge forward, orchid and freesia supporting, orange blossom sweetening the edges. This phase brings lush, romantic florals that feel rich and layered. The drydown softens everything. Musk and patchouli arrive, creating warmth without weight, a skin-close embrace that lingers. The osmanthus persists beneath the florals and base, a honeyed presence that distinguishes this edition from the standard. The fragrance evolves naturally from bright opening through rich heart to warm base.
Cultural impact
The 2014 Flowerbomb Christmas Edition featured a snowflake ornament on the iconic Flowerbomb bottle, marking it as a special seasonal release. This limited edition variation incorporates osmanthus and tea notes into the composition, giving it a warmth and complexity that distinguishes it from the original Flowerbomb. The fragrance sits firmly in the sweet floral register with the osmanthus-tea opening providing additional depth and character that appeals to those seeking something different within the Flowerbomb line.
