The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Viktor&Rolf built their reputation on conceptual fashion that challenges conventions, and Flowerbomb translates that ethos into olfactory form. The original grenade bottle was designed to look like an explosive device containing something beautiful, a visual contradiction that became iconic. Carlos Benaïm constructed this Extreme flanker with a directive to amplify the original's floral architecture, pushing each note into denser territory.
The note selection reflects a philosophy of controlled intensity. Raspberry and bergamot create an immediate sensory impact, while tea grounds the opening with its clean, slightly bitter quality. The heart's four florals are chosen for their complementary textures rather than sheer volume, with orange blossom specifically adding contrast to the sweeter elements. The base prioritizes warmth and longevity through peru balsam and patchouli, with vanilla serving as the bridge between the florals and the earthier elements.
The evolution
The opening shifts from the original's green tea and bergamot foundation to something fruitier and brighter, with raspberry taking center stage alongside bergamot and tea. As the heart develops, the classic Flowerbomb florals intensify, freesia and jasmine becoming more prominent while orange blossom adds its characteristic bitter-floral character. The drydown moves from the original's subtle musk into deeper resinous territory with peru balsam and patchouli, vanilla providing the creamy finish that extends longevity significantly.
Cultural impact
Flowerbomb has been one of the defining designer fragrances of the past two decades. Flowerbomb Extreme 2025 extends the franchise's reach into more intense territory, appealing to those who loved the original but wanted something bolder. The strong projection and 8-10 hour longevity make it a fragrance that announces itself, the kind that gets noticed without trying. In a market crowded with safe flankers, this one commits to an identity: raspberry-bright, vanilla-warm, floral-rich, and unapologetically present.
