Why it exists.
The beginning
Prayer arrived in 2021 when Teone Reinthal began examining the sensory grammar of sacred resins, how they function simultaneously as meditative objects and emotional anchors. The fragrance name points toward ritual rather than religion: something repeated daily until it becomes part of you. Reinthal built the composition around a tension between frankincense and copal, two resins used in ceremonial contexts across different traditions, and the warmer, slightly sweeter Tolu balsam. That pull between the sacred and the intimate became the fragrance's quiet argument.
What sets Prayer apart from the broader resinous fragrance category is the sandalwood architecture running through every phase. Multiple sandalwood origins appear, Australian, Indian, North and West Australian, and they behave differently at each stage. In the opening, the amyris and cypress lead, crisp and coniferous. But as the heart develops, the sandalwoods multiply. The tolubalsam adds a vanilla-adjacent sweetness that some reviewers describe as lush, almost unexpected in what could otherwise read as austere. The frankincense, from Somalia, Oman, and Boswellia strains, doesn't dominate. It weaves.
The evolution
The opening hits bold and green, coniferous, camphorous, resinous. Pine and cypress arrive sharp and upright before transitioning quickly to the heart. That's where Prayer earns its name: the tolubalsam emerges as something lush and slightly sweet, softening what could have been another austere incense. The frankincense doesn't overwhelm, it bridges. Sandalwood from multiple origins layers through the heart, creamy and warm beneath the green. Then the drydown arrives: copal, pine resin, more frankincense settling into a smoky, balsamic base that stays intimate and close. Eight to ten hours on most skin. Prayer doesn't fill the room. It marks you.
Cultural impact
Prayer occupies a specific corner of the niche world: natural, resinous, and quietly confident. It appeals to collectors who prioritize material authenticity over commercial longevity tricks. The alcohol-free formulation means projection is moderate rather than explosive, a deliberate choice that marks it as a fragrance for proximity rather than announcement.
