Why it exists.
The beginning
O'Vesù is Italian dialect for Vesuvius. The name alone does the heavy lifting, calling up something ancient and volatile before you uncork the bottle. It sits inside Tiziana Terenzi's Vulcani collection, a themed line drawn from the creative partnership between Tiziana and perfumer Paolo Terenzi, where each fragrance treats fire and eruption as emotional terrain. O'Vesù reads as the Campanian chapter in that series, the volcano made personal, the mountain translated into something wearable. Released in 2024, it leans into volcanic force through scent, a composition built to evoke heat, stone, and pressure rather than pastoral ease.
The composition is striking because of what it asks lava rock to do. Mineral notes rarely anchor a fragrance, let alone one built around jasmine and leather. Placing Italian lava rock in the heart alongside ambergris means the white floral and the animalic have to find their footing against a stony register. The effect reads as geological: warm, cracked, dry at the edges. Rhubarb and grapefruit on top bring a bright, almost vegetal acidity that cuts cleanly through the density below, cracking the sweetness open and letting heat bleed through.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are all bite. Grapefruit cuts sharp, pink pepper adds a dry buzz, and rhubarb sits underneath giving the citrus a faintly sour edge, like biting into a stalk of something green and unexpected. Nothing here announces the leather or the jasmine yet. They're underneath, waiting. Somewhere around the thirty-minute mark the jasmine surfaces, but it doesn't arrive clean. It comes wrapped in leather and that mineral streak from the lava rock, so what you smell isn't a flower so much as the air around a flower growing near something molten. The smoke is subtle at this stage, more suggestion than campfire. By hour two the structure has settled into its real identity: warm birch, dry sandalwood, the kind of vetiver that smells like rain on warm stone. The moss deepens it. The jasmine is still there, faint but persistent, like a memory of something that happened earlier.
Cultural impact
O'Vesù sits within the Vulcani collection, Terenzi's volcanic-themed line released in 2024. Distributed in limited quantities through Terenzi boutiques worldwide, it has drawn attention as a dense, statement-making fragrance that wears close to the skin in its later hours but projects strongly on the opening. Wearers describe it as a cold-weather power fragrance, the kind that earns its reputation through sheer density and the way leather and smoke braid together. It belongs to evenings and colder months, where its mineral warmth and mossy base have room to develop.
