A house, in its own words
The Terenzi family's story in fragrance begins not with perfume, but with candles. In 1968, Evelino Terenzi established Cereria Terenzi in Cattolica, Italy, operating initially from a modest 16-square-meter workshop. Evelino continued what his own father, Guglielmo Terenzi, had helped build: an artisan waxworks producing devotional and Paschal candles for churches. This generational craft in shaping wax and scent provided the foundation for what would eventually become a fine fragrance house. Evelino's children, Tiziana and Paolo, grew up immersed in this world of artisan candles and aromatic materials. The siblings developed complementary roles: Tiziana assumed creative direction, while Paolo trained as the house's in-house perfumer. In 2012, they launched their first perfumes under the Tiziana Terenzi name, transforming their family's expertise in slow-burning candle compositions into concentrated extraits designed for wear. This marked a deliberate pivot from ecclesiastical candle production toward the personal fragrance market, though the house maintains its artisanal character. Cattolica, a coastal town in the Emilia-Romagna region, remains the brand's home. The company's perfume catalog has grown substantially since that 2012 debut, with new releases continuing through at least 2025.
Tiziana Terenzi describes its fragrance-making as a process of translating personal experience into olfactory form. The house draws on memories, journeys, and shared moments around fire as creative source material. Paolo Terenzi's role as in-house perfumer means the brand's entire olfactory identity flows from a single nose, creating stylistic coherence across diverse scent families. The house structures its offerings into themed collections, each representing different creative territories. Some lines explore geographic or historical themes, while others focus on emotional atmospheres. The compositions tend toward the assertive: high concentrations meant to project and last through extended wear. Tiziana Terenzi's creative direction emphasizes narrative alongside raw material quality, framing each fragrance as a story rather than a commodity. The siblings reportedly work together on briefs and development, with Paolo translating concepts into accord structures and Tiziana shaping the artistic direction. This collaborative model gives the brand a recognizable house character even as individual releases explore different olfactory directions.
