The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Tiziana Terenzi traces its roots to 1968 and a family candle workshop in Cattolica, Italy. Today, siblings Tiziana and Paolo Terenzi helm the house she founded and he perfumed, a single-nose structure uncommon in niche. The brand crafts extrait de parfum concentrations across its range, prioritizing longevity and depth over fleeting sillage. Paolo Terenzi approaches each composition as a narrative, treating fragrance as a form of sensory storytelling rooted in Italian craft and Mediterranean materials.
The note selection for Atlantide reflects a specific philosophical approach: begin with accessible brightness to invite the wearer in, then reveal complexity through the heart, and finally anchor everything in warmth. Bergamot and passion fruit function as the invitation, tuberose and the floral-fruity heart as the substance, and ambergris-benzoin-musky drydown as the memory. The pairing of tropical fruit with marine ambergris is not accidental; it connects the surface brightness of the sea to its mysterious depths, grounding the mythological reference in material reality.
The evolution
The opening of Atlantide channels immediate tropical energy. Passion fruit and bergamot arrive together, creating a sharp-fruity brightness that tuberose softens from the first moments. Rose appears briefly, lending a fleeting sweetness before the composition shifts. Within the heart, tuberose strengthens alongside narcissus and iris, while blackcurrant and lingonberry introduce a tart, almost wine-like quality that keeps the florals grounded. Orange blossom adds a honeyed sweetness that bridges the transition. The drydown marks a dramatic tonal shift as ambergris surfaces, bringing its characteristic marine-animalic depth. Benzoin then warms the base with resinous sweetness, and musk extends the wear into soft, skin-close territory.
Cultural impact
Atlantide is a limited release, only 1,000 pieces, from the Sea Stars collection. The Sea Stars line explores maritime and celestial themes across the Tiziana Terenzi catalog, and Atlantide stands out for its bold white floral character and its use of ambergris in the base. Wearers describe it as the scent of someone who walks into a room and doesn't need to announce themselves.
