The beginning
Tiziana Terenzi released this composition in 2023, and the juice reads as an offering rather than an accessory. Brazilian passion fruit and Calabrian bergamot form the opening, the first collision of fruit and citrus that sets the tone for everything that follows. The sweetness is immediate, almost aggressive in its generosity, but the bergamot keeps things honest. There's a coolness underneath the tropical blast, a kind of bracing clarity that saves the opening from cloying. The drydown settles into Turkish tobacco and Australian sandalwood, and this is where the composition earns its weight. The tobacco arrives with a cured, almost papyrus quality, dry and faintly sweet rather than smoky in any aggressive way.
What makes Ephesos structurally unusual is the tension between its fruit-forward top and its heavy, resinous base. Most sweet-leaning niche fragrances stack their fruits over vanilla and call it done. Here, passion fruit and blackcurrant are forced to coexist with Haitian vetiver and Turkish tobacco, an almost violent contrast that resolves into something drier and more grown-up than the opening suggests. The Ceylonese cinnamon and Thai ylang-ylang bridge the gap, keeping the sweetness warm rather than candied. It's a composition that earns its sweetness through contrast, not volume.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and almost aggressive in its sweetness, passion fruit, bergamot, and lemon arriving all at once with a thread of tuberose giving the whole thing a slightly humid, fleshy quality. It smells like fruit left too long in a warm room, which is meant as a compliment. The blackcurrant sharpens the edge just enough to keep things from going syrupy, a tart counterweight that pulls the sweetness back from the brink. As the opening softens, the fruit recedes and the heart takes over. Peach and raspberry round out the corners, replacing citrus sting with something gentler, more pulpy. The Turkish rose is present but restrained, more velvet lining than centerpiece, sitting underneath rather than on top.

Ephesos sits within the house's growing catalog of extraits, a category the brand has leaned into more heavily in recent releases. The composition itself is a tropical-tobacco hybrid built around a core of passion fruit, bergamot, Turkish tobacco, and Australian sandalwood, supported by a heart of rose, cinnamon, peach, and raspberry, with a base of vanilla and oakmoss. That note structure, fruit up top, smoke and wood in the base, places it within an established niche tradition rather than outside it.
