The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Wicked! arrived in 2017 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a line that builds on the house's practice of recreating recognizable scent profiles from well-known compositions. This particular release takes aim at the aromatic fougère structure, a category known for pairing lavender and oakmoss with warm amber undertones, and the rebuild leans heavier and more resinous than the reference material it's working from. The bottle contains 30 ml of extrait de parfum concentration, a deliberate choice that pushes longevity well beyond standard eau de parfum territory and gives the composition a weight that lingers through a full day of wear.
What's unusual here is the weight behind what is traditionally a lighter genre. Wicked! loads the base with a dense stack, clove, cardamom, nutmeg, patchouli, labdanum, cashmere wood, and tonka bean all sitting beneath the lavender and oakmoss in a way that pulls the entire composition downward. That density is what makes it read as a fougère turned inward, heavier and more resinous than the clean-shaven archetype most people associate with the category.
The evolution
The first twenty minutes are a cold slap. Bergamot, lemon, and petitgrain flash bright, then lavender and basil settle in alongside mint and tarragon, creating a green-aromatic opening that feels almost like stepping into a vintage apothecary. Around the thirty-minute mark the heart opens, and this is where the composition shifts. Lily of the valley and jasmine arrive with violet and May rose, softening the herbaceous top just enough to make room for what's coming. The clove and cardamom show up early in the base, warming everything from underneath. By the two-hour mark the oakmoss and patchouli have claimed the composition, and the scent reads darker, more grounded, with tonka bean and labdanum adding a resinous sweetness that wasn't present in the opening.
Cultural impact
Wicked! sits in the well-populated space of designer-grade aromatic fougères, the kind of release that draws on the genre's deep roots while pushing the format into denser, more resinous territory. The genre itself stretches back to classic barbershop scents, and Wicked! leans into that heritage while adding modern spice and resin weight that sets it apart from the cleaner, more traditional interpretations. It's not trying to be subtle, and that directness is exactly what its audience values.
