The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The graceful cavalier presses forward with the absence of fear. That is the figure at the center of Strive, launched in 2022 as part of The Dua Brand's Original Blend Collection. The concept draws from a singular image: a cavalier who moves through the world with composure, and whose presence lingers in rose and leather well after he has passed. The opening cuts a bright, effervescent path with bergamot, tangerine, pear, and quince. The fruit notes lift and sparkle for a brief window before the composition begins its descent into something denser. Then the character arrives, and the fragrance shifts beneath your nose.
What separates Strive from a dozen other leather-and-rose compositions is the saddle accord that runs through the heart. It is a treated leather note that does most of the structural work in the middle phase, and it gives the fragrance its backbone. Turkish rose and pink rose sit underneath it, and together they create a floral cushion that softens the leather's rougher edges without burying them. The fruit opening is not ornamental; it serves a specific function within the composition, brightening the leather and keeping the roses from collapsing into something too dense.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes belong to the fruit: bergamot and tangerine sparkling over pear and quince, bright and almost playful, the kind of opening that catches you off guard with its clarity. Do not be fooled. The saddle leather and roses start creeping in before the first half hour is done, and by the forty-minute mark the fruit has been fully absorbed, replaced by a warm floral leather that feels like it has been on the skin all day. The Turkish rose takes over the conversation, sweet and jammy, pressed against the grain of the leather rather than floating above it. The two materials wrestle for dominance, and the result is a heart that smells both romantic and rough. Then the sandalwood and moss arrive in the base, and the composition settles.
Cultural impact
Strive sits in the part of The Dua Brand's catalog where the house leans into leather and rose rather than sweet gourmands or heavy orientals. The saddle accord in the heart is what gives it its posture, anchoring the composition in materials that feel weighty and traditional without tipping into nostalgia. It is a fragrance that wears well across seasons but comes alive in cooler weather, when the leather and moss have room to expand. The fruit opening is the counterweight that keeps the whole thing from feeling too heavy, a bright moment at the top that gives way to something richer as the hours pass.
