The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Skybound Towers is a 2025 release from The Dua Brand, composed by Mahsam Raza as part of the Inspired Expression collection. It's a fragrance built around a specific gravity: something towering, sun-struck, and sharp, an aromatic statement that reads less like a scent and more like a structure. The name carries that intention in every syllable, and the composition follows through with materials chosen for scale and presence rather than subtlety. Rose, oud, leather, moss, and a dense thicket of woods and spices come together in a form that holds its line from first spray to final fade. There's nothing tentative about it. No wispy florals that dissolve in an hour, no polite citrus that bows out before the conversation starts. This is a composition that walks into a room and stays.
The composition layers rose, oud, leather, and moss in a structure that reads as one continuous vertical gesture rather than a pyramid. The roses appear early, and they don't behave the way most florals do in modern compositions. They don't bloom and then recede into a polite memory. They hold their line while cedarwood, cypriol, and oud build upward beneath them, creating a layered effect where the floral never fully leaves the foreground.
The evolution
The first hour is all crackle and architecture. Black pepper, saffron, and cardamom hit simultaneously, sharp and warm, while bergamot and lavender keep the air from getting too heavy. The roses arrive quickly, both Damask and red, and they hold the structure upright while thyme and Peruvian pepper tree add a green, almost resinous shimmer. After 90 minutes, the pepper and saffron start to recede, and the heart takes over: cedarwood, cypriol, pine, and cypress bring a dense, woody, almost forest-like depth. The leather and oakmoss deepen it further, turning the composition toward something smoky and grounded. Jasmine and violet flicker through but never dominate. By hour three or four, the base has fully settled: amber and benzoin bring a warm, resinous sweetness, sandalwood softens everything, and the musk and woody notes leave a close, dry trail.
Cultural impact
Skybound Towers sits within The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection, a 2025 release that places it among the brand's more ambitious compositions. Its dual rose and oud structure, combined with cypriol and oakmoss, gives it a traditional oriental-woody backbone that feels rooted in classic perfumery traditions while incorporating a modern density of materials. The combination of Damask rose, red rose, and oud in the same composition, supported by a chypre-adjacent base of mosses and patchouli, reflects a design philosophy that values complexity and continuity over the simpler structures that dominate much of contemporary fragrance.
