The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Created in collaboration with Harrods to mark the launch of the Serpent collection, Ruby Naga is a tribute to the luxury and sophistication of the Knightsbridge store. The fragrance arrives as part of a curated series where serpentine imagery defines the collection's thematic identity. Ruby Naga opens with an opulent fruit accord that immediately signals richness and indulgence. Raspberry, lychee, and peach intermingle in a juicy, almost gourmand sweetness that feels both contemporary and timeless. As the top notes soften, a floral heart emerges, centered around Bulgarian rose and jasmine sambac, their heady petals woven together with orris root's powdery, slightly starchy texture.
The heart of Ruby Naga is built on orris root and Bulgarian rose, a combination that gives the fragrance its powdery texture beneath the sweeter fruit notes of the opening. Jasmine sambac adds a heady floral layer that elevates the composition into something richer and more complex than a straightforward fruity fragrance. The crystal amber in the base serves as a bridge between the brightness of the opening and the warm intimacy of the drydown, allowing the vanilla and tonka to settle in gradually.
The evolution
The opening arrives with immediate sweetness, raspberry, lychee, and peach colliding in a burst that feels juicy and luminous. The green mandarin keeps it from becoming overly sweet, providing a subtle citrus brightness that lifts the top notes. As the initial sweetness begins to settle, the floral heart takes over gradually rather than abruptly. Bulgarian rose and jasmine sambac dominate the middle phase, supported by orris root's powdery texture that adds depth and complexity. The hand-off from fruit to florals is not abrupt; there is a grey zone where both are present, and that tension is where the fragrance earns its complexity. The drydown settles into vanilla and tonka bean softened by white musk and crystal amber, warm, close, and intimate.
Cultural impact
Since its launch, Ruby Naga has drawn attention within the niche fragrance community for its fruity-floral oriental structure and the quality of its materials. The Harrods collaboration places it firmly within the luxury retail space, a fragrance that reads as both collectible and wearable. This positioning connects the brand's aesthetic with an established standard of refined shopping experience, offering fragrance enthusiasts a bridge between artistic perfumery and accessible luxury.
