The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Stéphane Humbert Lucas founded Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 in France in 2013, building a house that treats raw materials like paints and fragrance compositions like canvases. Venom Incarnat arrived in 2022, conceived as a study in contrasts: the seductive danger of poison wrapped in the guileless brightness of fresh strawberries. Lucas draws on his deep knowledge of Middle Eastern raw materials to build a fragrance that feels simultaneously innocent and intoxicating. The brand's artistic sensibility guides every choice, from the concentration of the blend to the layering of contradictory themes.
The note structure reflects a deliberate philosophy of contrast: bright, innocent fruits layered over dark, dangerous base materials. Wild strawberry and blackberry create an opening that feels playful, yet the caramel sweetness hints at something more indulgent. The heart introduces cedarwood and cinnamon to bridge the gap between sweetness and darkness, adding warmth and complexity. The base pairs leather with vanilla and tonka bean, creating a finish that feels both luxurious and slightly dangerous. This progression mirrors the paradox at the heart of the fragrance: sweetness that conceals danger, innocence that masks venom.
The evolution
The scent opens with an immediate collision of wild strawberry and strawberry, their jammy sweetness amplified by caramel that feels sticky and indulgent. Blackberry arrives quickly, lending a tart edge that suggests danger beneath the sweetness. As the top notes fade, raspberry becomes the new fruity anchor, its tartness softened by warm cedarwood that introduces a woody, slightly smoky dimension. Cinnamon weaves through the heart in warm pulses, adding spice that keeps the berries from feeling too soft. The drydown marks the true transformation: leather emerges as the dominant force, its smoky depth replacing the initial innocence with something darker and more commanding. Caramel and vanilla remain, providing a comforting sweetness that balances the leather's edge. Tonka bean deepens the gourmand quality while patchouli and balsam fir ground everything in earthy, resinous complexity.
Cultural impact
Wearers often describe Venom Incarnat as a bold statement piece, likening its sweet‑leather duality to the daring aesthetics of the La Collection Serpent line. It’s frequently mentioned alongside Veneno Scarlet and Desert as a modern take on gourmand leather, earning a cult following among those who enjoy a fragrance that’s both confectionary and animalic.
