Why it exists.
The beginning
Allegria, meaning cheerfulness in Italian, arrived in 2014 from Sonia Constant's hands. Constant built Allegria around green and fruity notes that read as brightness itself rather than an imitation of it. The composition opens with a burst of grapefruit and passion fruit, sharp and luminous, before settling into layers of basil, buchu, eucalyptus, and mimosa that give the fragrance its green-cool architecture. Underneath it all, tonka bean, amber, cedarwood, moss, and musk hold the brightness to the skin, warm and grounded. It's a scent designed to feel like cheerfulness distilled, liquid optimism captured in a bottle rather than a sugary approximation of happiness.
The structural gamble here is the buchu. It's a leaf with a blackcurrant-like sharpness that brings an herbal edge most green compositions quietly avoid. Constant pairs it with basil and eucalyptus, building a green-cool tension that runs through the heart of the fragrance. Mimosa absolute enters to soften the edges, adding a powdery, almost honeyed warmth that keeps things from becoming too sharp or medicinal. It's a composition that treats green notes as architecture, not garnish.
The evolution
The opening is pure sunlight, grapefruit and passion fruit bright enough to almost sting, vivid and immediate. Then buchu and basil slide in, cooling the heat without killing it, and the scent shifts into something greener, more herbal, like walking past a garden wall after rain. As the hours pass, the eucalyptus recedes and mimosa starts to surface, giving the composition a powdery softness that wasn't there in the first moments. The drydown is quieter. Tonka bean and amber settle into the moss and musk, warm and slightly sweet but never heavy. On fabric the following day, what remains is a clean cedarwood-amber trace, still cheerful, just whispering now.
