The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Cavatina arrived in 2021, when Pissara Umavijani had already established Parfums Dusita as a house built on narrative-driven compositions. Her philosophy centers on translating emotional and spiritual concepts into scent, not ingredient lists, but feelings. With Cavatina, that intent focused on a particular challenge: making lily-of-the-valley the main event. The flower carries an aqueous, almost dewy quality that most perfumers use as a supporting note, a brightness that can tip into something synthetic if handled carelessly. Pissara's approach was to give it space. Let it lead. See what happens when the quiet flower stops being quiet.
What happens is Cavatina. The top opens with Calabrian bergamot, tart, bright, immediate. But the real work begins in the heart, where lily-of-the-valley anchors the composition alongside tea rose and Indonesian ylang-ylang. The combination is botanically precise: all three materials share a certain dewy, almost-green quality that creates coherence rather than contrast. The ylang-ylang adds creaminess, the tea rose adds softness, and the lily-of-the-valley provides that singular freshness, cool and alive, like the moment after rain. The base leans on ambrette seed, an unusual choice that brings a subtle animalic musk echoing the flower's natural scent.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and tart, bergamot lifting the top notes into something immediate. Within minutes, the lily-of-the-valley asserts itself, greener and more insistent than expected. This is not a polite floral. The heart phase shifts from fresh to lush, ylang-ylang adding a creamy warmth that rounds the edges. The drydown settles into something intimate: sandalwood and vanilla creating a warm, slightly sweet base that wears close to the skin for hours. Moderate sillage means it doesn't announce itself, it leaves a trace. The kind of fragrance someone notices when they're standing close enough to talk.
Cultural impact
Cavatina stands out for its compositional choice: centering lily-of-the-valley at the heart rather than relegating it to a supporting role. Community reception highlights its fresh, clean character without feeling generic, with lasting performance that draws people in to ask about it.
