The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Egeo On You arrived in 2019 as something genuinely new: a fragrance co-created by artificial intelligence. O Boticário partnered with IBM and Symrise to develop Philyra, a system trained on the brand's existing catalog of over two hundred scents. Rather than following trends, Philyra analyzed what gaps existed in the range and proposed compositions to fill them. David Apel took those proposals and refined them into the final formula. The result is a scent that feels familiar in its structure, fresh opening, aromatic heart, warm base, but whose specific combination of notes would not have emerged from a traditional brief. This is a fragrance designed by algorithm, then finished by hand.
The most striking choice in Egeo On You is the base. Sweetened condensed milk is not a common perfumery material, it reads as dulce de leche, that thick caramel warmth found in Brazilian confections. Combined with benzoin and sandalwood, it creates a lactonic richness that sits in contrast to the camphorated, almost medicinal opening of eucalyptus and mint. This is the structural tension that makes the fragrance work: cool and hot, fresh and sweet, the crisp of a rainforest morning meeting the warmth of afternoon sun on skin. Fenugreek in the heart adds a maple-syrup nuance that connects the green herbs to the milk note, making the transition feel intentional rather than accidental.
The evolution
The opening announces itself with authority. Eucalyptus and mint arrive together, sharp and camphorated, followed within seconds by bergamot and a whisper of cardamom. The pineapple appears almost immediately, bright, tropical, a quick sweetness that prevents the opening from becoming too clinical. The galbanum keeps things green throughout, a leafy counter to the fruit. Around the thirty-minute mark, the eucalyptus begins to soften. Lavender and sage move forward, their herbal coolness replacing the mentholated rush. The fenugreek emerges here, adding a faint caramel undertone that prepares the transition. By the second hour, the lactonic base takes over. Sweetened condensed milk becomes unmistakable, warm, edible, almost gourmand. Sandalwood and benzoin smooth it out. Vetiver adds a dry earthiness that keeps the sweetness from becoming cloying. The drydown holds for hours, close to the skin, projecting modestly. On fabric, the milk note can linger into the next day.
Cultural impact
Egeo On You stands as one of the first commercially released fragrances developed with AI assistance, using the Philyra system from IBM and Symrise. This context matters less for what it says about the fragrance itself and more for what it signals about the industry, the technology used to design it reflects a broader shift in how fragrance houses approach composition and market gaps. The fragrance occupies a specific space in the Egeo line: positioned as the counterpart to Egeo On Me, with a character more aromatic and less fruity-sweet than its sibling.
