The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nicheend is a Turkish house founded in 2018 by two brothers who treat fragrance as a medium for exploring the unknown. Planet X draws its name from the hypothetical planet that astronomers speculate exists beyond Pluto, a world that may or may not be confirmed in our lifetime. The brothers channel this sense of wonder into scent, building perfumes that feel like discoveries rather than products. The perfumer behind Planet X works within this framework, translating celestial speculation into olfactory reality. The brand's Turkish roots inform a certain richness of material, but the execution is modern and understated.
The note philosophy behind Planet X treats each ingredient as a marker along a journey from the known to the unknown. Lime and pear represent immediacy, the first encounter with something new. Black pepper functions as a bridge, a transition point that hints at complexity beyond the surface. The jasmine and magnolia pairing illustrates the house's preference for layered florals, avoiding singular floral statements in favor of something more nuanced. Patchouli grounds this arrangement, keeping it tied to earth despite its cosmic namesake. Benzoin in the drydown represents finality and warmth, the resonance that remains after a signal has faded.
The evolution
The journey of Planet X begins in the upper registers with a citrus and fruit alliance that feels immediate and refreshing. Lime cuts sharply while pear softens the edges, creating a sensation like biting into a cool slice of ripe fruit on a warm day. Black pepper introduces a subtle complexity, a faint heat that suggests the spice of discovery. As the top notes fade, jasmine blooms with its familiar heady floralcy, soon joined by magnolia's cooler floral character. Patchouli weaves through the florals, adding earth and shadow. The evolution concludes with benzoin and musk, a warm, resinous foundation that feels like a lingering signal from deep space.
Cultural impact
Since its 2022 debut, Planet X has become a quiet favorite among niche enthusiasts who appreciate its balanced sweet‑spicy character. Wearers often note the pepper‑kissed opening as a conversation starter, while the lingering musk‑benzoin base earns compliments in evening settings. Its strong sillage and reliable longevity have secured its place as a go‑to for those seeking a confident, yet approachable, celestial scent.
