The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Verônica Kato designed Magia da Floresta around a specific moment in the Amazon: the daily cycle when the forest exhales. After rainfall, the canopy releases an aromatic mist, cool, green, alive. The name translates directly: Magic of the Forest. Kato worked within Natura's Ekos collection, which sources Brazilian botanicals and translates them into modern fragrance. The priprioca, a Brazilian sedge, appears rarely in Western perfumery. Its inclusion offers wearers a chance to encounter a plant unfamiliar to most commercial fragrances, adding a distinctive character drawn from regional botanical tradition.
The priprioca is the quiet engine here. A wetland sedge native to Brazil, it brings an earthy, slightly mineral quality that shapes the fragrance's character. Copaiba balm provides the balsamic depth, a warm woodiness that anchors the composition. Together, these Brazilian materials create a base that feels rooted in place. The plum and lotus keep it from becoming too heavy, while the interplay between native botanicals and more familiar florals is where the interest lives.
The evolution
The opening reads cool and watery, lotus and green notes combining for that damp-forest feeling. Damask plum adds a subtle dark fruit sweetness, but the pink pepper keeps everything lifted. The heart arrives: jasmine and peony bloom in layers, freesia adding a quiet sweetness in the background. The priprioca provides an earthy undercurrent that grounds what came before. By the mid-drydown, the woody base takes over. Cedar and vetiver weave through the remaining floral traces, tonka bean softening the wood into something warmer and rounder. The scent settles into a quiet presence on the skin, a subtle exhale rather than a statement.
Cultural impact
Magia da Floresta sits within Natura's broader approach to scent design, incorporating Brazilian botanicals into compositions that blend regional and more universal fragrance materials. Its use of priprioca, a Brazilian wetland sedge, and copaiba balm brings native ingredients into conversation with floral and woody accords. The fragrance offers a distinctive character through its aquatic, green, and woody combination, positioning it as a notable entry within the Ekos collection. The mix of regional botanicals and familiar fragrance elements creates a scent that feels both grounded and accessible.
