The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Esta Flor Íris is a powdery violet-wool heart reimagined through a tropical lens. Perfumers Verônica Kato and Isaac Sinclair built the composition around the iris root itself, letting the orris take center stage from the heart forward rather than waiting until the drydown to reveal itself. The result is an iris-forward structure that feels familiar yet distinctly modern. Brazilian cabreuva wood brings a slightly sweet, resinous quality that gives the classic iris structure unexpected warmth and dimension. The interplay between European perfumery tradition and Brazilian botanical sourcing creates something that honors its roots while charting its own territory.
The iris note in perfumery is almost always a whisper, a soft powder that appears in the base, supporting brighter materials. Esta Flor Íris reverses that hierarchy entirely. The orris note here is the main event, not the background singer. It arrives in the heart and stays through the drydown, its powdery violet-wool character threading through every layer that follows. Brazilian cabreuva wood, native to the country, brings a slightly sweet, resinous quality that keeps the classic iris structure from feeling like a museum piece.
The evolution
The opening is a whole event in itself. Bergamot and Sicilian lemon arrive clean and bright. Green notes follow, not the sharp cut of galbanum but something rounder, almost dewy. Petitgrain and mandarin orange layer in, and there's a curious kiwi note that adds a tart-fruity edge without reading sweet. For the first thirty minutes, you're in full citrus territory. Then the hand-off begins. Neroli and magnolia move forward, and the lily of the valley grounds what could have been too delicate. The iris doesn't rush. It arrives with confidence, powdery, violet, present, asserting itself immediately in the composition. The ylang-ylang keeps it warm. Raspberry adds a faint sweetness that flirts without sweetness doing anything obvious. By the third hour, the base takes over. Cedar and sandalwood build the structure. Vetiver adds an earthy counterweight.
Cultural impact
Natura occupies a distinctive position in the fragrance world, Brazilian in identity, international in ambition. Esta Flor Íris represents the house's ongoing exploration of how Brazilian botanical sourcing can support European-style compositions. For international audiences, Esta Flor Íris offers something unexpected: an iris fragrance with a Brazilian soul, rooted in local botanical tradition yet crafted with the sophistication of international perfumery standards.
