The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Une Souris Verte takes its cue from a French children's rhyme, the kind sung in circles with hand gestures, a playful throwback to something everyone knows but no one thinks about. There's a skipping, slightly mischievous quality to the name itself, almost naive on the surface, then tangled underneath. Launched in 2002 under the Mon Premier Parfum banner, the name made clear that this was meant as a first scent, a gentle introduction rather than a statement. The result is a fragrance that opens like a window thrown wide onto a kitchen garden, then settles into something much more textured than the nursery rhyme would suggest.
What makes the composition unusual is how many green notes crowd into the top without drowning each other. Tomato leaf gives that sharp, vine-ripened bite you only catch in summer, the kind of green that feels almost edible. Basil brings the sweetness that rounds out the sharpness, a softer herbal curve against the leaf's sharper edges. Rosemary and artemisia push things into herbal territory without tipping into something medicinal, staying green rather than crossing into camphor or cooling salve.
The evolution
The opening is cut grass and crushed leaves, possibly the most aggressive green you'll encounter in the bottle. Basil and tomato leaf are the loudest voices, with citron and mandarin threading through to keep things lifted rather than flat. There's an almost reckless quality to how much green gets thrown at you in those first minutes, the kind of opening that makes you check the bottle just to believe it's all there. The freesia arrives and pulls the scent somewhere softer, the airiness of orange blossom blooms alongside it. Cypress adds a dry, almost pencil-shaving note that prevents the heart from turning powdery. By the time the honey finally warms up and the Brazilian rosewood starts to anchor things, the composition has shifted registers entirely. What lingers past the first few hours is mostly vetiver, a clean, rooty drydown with a faint sweetness still clinging to it.
Cultural impact
Une Souris Verte has earned a steady following among wearers drawn to the herbaceous side of perfumery, the kind of fragrance that shows up in rotation rather than as a statement piece. It exists as part of the Mon Premier Parfum collection, a line positioned for those taking early steps into fragrance, and the scent itself carries that introductory spirit without ever feeling like a simplified version of something else. The fragrance has also appeared in ancillary formats, including a soap, which has introduced it to wearers who came for the bath product and stayed for the scent.
