The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The Apex is Yusif Meizongo Jnr's personal signature, the composition that names what the house considers its summit: a perfume of peace, presence and timeless strength. It circles back to frankincense, myrrh and nard, three resins that anchor devotional rituals across continents and centuries. These weren't abstract references for the perfumer. They were already in his hands. Already part of how scent functioned in spiritual practice, long before modern perfumery learned to name them. The resins sit at the heart of the formula, anchoring a structure that also welcomes coconut, pineapple and rum into the same space, an unusual pairing that gives the composition its particular warmth.
The unusual move here is frankincense, myrrh and nard sharing space with coconut, pineapple and rum. Most resin-led fragrances tilt heavy and incense-dark from the first spray. The Apex keeps its top notes tropical and generous, then lets the resins arrive through the middle as something more grounded, almost architectural. There's a slow pivot from brightness to depth that rewards patience. Spikenard, the nard of ancient anointing oils, acts as connective tissue between the opening fruits and the resinous heart that follows.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes smell like a beach at dusk. Sea salt, coconut cream, a flash of pineapple catching light, then rum rounding the edges into something boozy and soft. Ambrocenide hums underneath, giving the whole opening a mineral clarity that keeps the sweetness from cloying. There's a quality to this opening that recalls sun-warmed skin and salt spray, the kind of scent that makes a room feel closer. By the one-hour mark the resins begin to surface. Frankincense arrives first, bright and almost lemony, followed by myrrh settling in like smoke after a candle goes out. Rose and geranium push through the middle, dusty and slightly green, with cucumber and lime keeping the heat in check. Cedar and moss ground it, pulling the composition toward earth. The drydown is where The Apex earns its name.
Cultural impact
The Apex wears like someone who knows exactly where they come from. It draws on the ancient trio of frankincense, myrrh and nard, materials sacred across continents, and the perfumer handles them with obvious respect, letting their devotional weight do the talking. There's a warmth here that doesn't lean on heaviness or smoke to communicate depth. The resins settle into something ambered and grounding, the base breathing soft rather than dense. The composition suits moments of stillness, evenings when the temperature drops and the heavier notes can open up slowly against the skin.
