The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Deeper Than Words arrived in 2020 from Yusif Meizongo Jnr. The fragrance was born from a dream, and from an old Scandinavian legend about a treasure no one had ever reached. According to the house, Meizongo accessed that hidden curation through what the brand calls a divine portal, and the depth required to bring it back is what gave the scent its name. The official framing leans mystical, but the composition stays grounded: olibanum, amber, honey, vanilla, iris, oud, chamomile, ambergris. Each note earns its place in the structure, contributing to a blend that reads as deliberate from the first impression through to the final fade. The olibanum offers a dry, almost meditative opening, while honey adds warmth without tipping into sweetness.
What makes this composition worth attention is the way it balances frankincense with a softer, more intimate center. Olibanum opens the door, but vanilla and iris walk through it. The oud arrives quietly, more whisper than declaration. The chamomile in the base adds a thread of green calm that keeps the amber from going heavy. This isn't a fragrance chasing shock. It's one built around gravity. The interplay between resin and softness gives it a duality that rewards close attention, the kind of scent that reveals more the longer you sit with it.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are smoke and gold. Frankincense and amber climb together, lifted by a thread of honey that reads almost incense-like, dry rather than syrupy. This is the most architectural phase of the wear, the one that feels sculpted. Around the one-hour mark, the structure loosens. Vanilla arrives to soften the resin, and iris powders the edges, turning the composition from something architectural into something that breathes. The oud surfaces slowly, not as a sharp accent but as a deepening of the whole. By hour three, the drydown is fully underway: chamomile, ambergris, and a soft spicy warmth that hugs skin rather than projecting outward. The sillage through this phase is moderate, more a sense of someone having just left a room than someone still in it.
Cultural impact
Deeper Than Words carries frankincense as a primary voice rather than an accent, which gives the composition a meditative gravity. The oud is present but restrained, never overwhelming the softer materials that surround it. This balance speaks to a sensibility interested in depth over display, in the kind of restraint that lets materials speak for themselves. The fragrance reads as deliberate, every note placed with purpose, and the result is a composition that rewards wearers who value patience and presence over immediate impact.
