The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
De la Mano por la Rosaleda is part of the Un Paseo por Madrid collection, Loewe's olfactory map of the city. The name translates to "Hand in Hand through the Rose Garden." That garden is the Rosaleda in El Retiro Park, one of Madrid's most storied green spaces, planted in the early 20th century and beloved ever since. In-house perfumer Nuria Cruelles translated that walk into a fragrance that captures what a rose garden actually feels like: not a single perfect bloom, but the whole ambiance of a place, petals, stems, warmth, green.
The interesting move here is using davana alongside the Damask rose. Davana is a herb from India, slightly fruity, slightly woody, not a typical rose companion. It prevents the heart from going static, adds a little resistance to the sweetness. Combined with saffron's leathery warmth, the rose doesn't smell like rose water or rose soap. It smells like roses in soil, touched by hand.
The evolution
The opening hits with bergamot's citrus brightness and cinnamon's spice, warm, inviting, nothing shy about it. Coriander seeds the transition with a faint peppery lift. Then the hand-off: Damask rose arrives like sunlight breaking through clouds, carrying the davana's herbal undertone and saffron's golden depth. This middle phase lasts the longest, 3 to 4 hours of what reviewers consistently call "natural" rose. The base is where it settles. Amber and Tolu balsam bring warmth without sweetness. Musk and patchouli ground everything. Vetiver adds a faint earthiness, a reminder that roses grow from dirt. On clothes, it lingers into the next day.
Cultural impact
Released as a limited-edition Harrods exclusive in 2018, De la Mano por la Rosaleda found its audience through word-of-mouth rather than mass marketing. Reviewers consistently describe it as the rare rose fragrance that doesn't smell synthetic, a composition that rewards attention. It sits quietly in the Loewe portfolio, not screaming for attention, earning its reputation one worn wrist at a time.
