    Loewe

Loewe stands apart as a Spanish luxury house with a German soul. Founded in Madrid in 1846 by a collective of leather craftsmen, the brand took its name when German merchant Enrique Loewe Roessberg arrived in 1872 and unified operations under his banner. Today, under creative director Jonathan Anderson since 2013, Loewe channels its obsessive dedication to craftsmanship into a distinctive perfumery program led by in-house perfumer Nuria Cruelles, one of the few female noses heading a major fragrance house. The result is perfumes rooted in Spanish vitality, artisanal tradition, and an uncompromising pursuit of quality.

    Heritage

A house, in its own words

Loewe traces its origins to 1846, when a collective of Spanish leather craftsmen established a workshop in Madrid dedicated to producing luxury leather goods. For nearly three decades, the operation functioned without a unified identity until 1872, when Enrique Loewe Roessberg, a German leather specialist of Hessian origin, arrived in the capital and consolidated the artisans under his name. The brand quickly earned royal recognition. In 1905, King Alfonso XIII granted the house the title of Purveyor to the Royal Court, with Queen Victoria Eugenie becoming a regular customer. The label attracted luminaries including Ernest Hemingway, Sophia Loren, and Marlene Dietrich. Loewe entered ready-to-wear in 1965 and launched its debut fragrance, L de Loewe, in 1972, marking its entrance into international perfumery. LVMH acquired the house in 1996, making Loewe the conglomerate's oldest luxury fashion house. Jonathan Anderson took the creative reins in 2013, launching the 001 fragrance in 2016 as a new chapter for the brand. Nuria Cruelles, who trained under long-serving perfumer Emilio Valeros, assumed leadership of the perfumery program in 2019, carrying forward his legacy.

Under Jonathan Anderson's creative direction, Loewe presents itself as a house devoted to craft in its purest form. This philosophy extends directly into its perfumery, where Cruelles works from a belief that scent should capture the vitality of nature itself. The fragrance collections draw inspiration from botanical worlds, Spanish landscapes, and the brand's artisan heritage. What distinguishes Loewe is its refusal to separate luxury from authenticity. Every perfume carries the weight of 179 years of craftsmanship, translated into liquid form. The brand operates with a modern Spanish sensibility that feels neither nostalgic nor disposable, instead occupying a space where heritage informs without constraining. Anderson and Cruelles share a commitment to pushing boundaries while honoring the house's foundational values of material excellence and artisanal integrity.
