Yves Cassar
Yves Cassar entered the perfume world just outside Grasse, where a chance encounter sparked a lifelong obsession. After earning chemistry and biology degrees at Université Valrose in Nice, he accepted his first laboratory post in the historic town, learning raw material extraction and formula balance. In 1984 he joined Florasynth, where he spent twelve years mastering the craft of fine‑floral and spicy accords. A move to Haarmann & Reimer in 1997 broadened his exposure to luxury and mass‑market collaborations. The following year he settled at International Flavors & Fragrances, where he now serves as Vice President and Senior Perfumer. Over more than three decades he has guided teams that delivered iconic scents for Vince Camuto, LoveShackFancy and other contemporary houses. His breakthrough arrived with “Rosso,” a bold red‑berry composition that earned critical praise and cemented his reputation for daring color‑inspired palettes. Today he mentors emerging noses while still shaping new releases that blend scientific rigor with poetic imagination.

The signature
How Yves composes
Cassar favors a structural approach that starts with a clear backbone—often a mineral or green element—then layers fruit, spice or floral accents around it. Vetiver, which he once compared to an adventurous explorer, appears in many of his compositions, providing earthy depth without heaviness. He frequently pairs citrus bursts with unexpected woods, creating contrast that resolves into smooth dry‑downs. His laboratory work emphasizes precise temperature control and slow maceration, allowing volatile ingredients to mature fully. The result is a clean, vibrant signature that feels both modern and timeless.
Philosophy
What drives Yves
Yves believes fragrance should translate feeling into scent the same way a painter turns emotion into color. He treats each brief as a conversation, listening to the brand’s story before selecting a single note that can carry the narrative forward. Curiosity drives him to revisit classic raw materials, extracting fresh perspectives from familiar ingredients. He respects the chemistry of balance, yet he allows intuition to dictate the moment an accord clicks. For Cassar, the most rewarding outcome is a perfume that instantly evokes a memory or a mood, proving that scent can speak louder than words.
