Heritage
A house, in its own words
The story of Henry Rose begins with Michelle Pfeiffer’s personal shift away from traditional perfume. After reportedly spending ten years without wearing fragrance, she turned her attention to the chemistry of scent and the opacity that often surrounds fine perfumery. In 2019 she launched Henry Rose as the first collection of genderless fine fragrances to publish a complete ingredient list for every product. The launch coincided with a growing consumer demand for transparency in beauty, and the brand quickly positioned itself as a clean‑focused alternative within the $3 billion fragrance market. Early press coverage highlighted the brand’s EWG Verified™ status, a rare credential for a perfume house, and its cruelty‑free, hypoallergenic formulation. Over the next few years the line expanded steadily: 2022 saw the release of Char and Sheep’s Clothing, while 2023 added Mustang Sally and Blonde Barry. 2024 introduced Jake’s House B.V.I., a scent inspired by Caribbean breezes, and 2025 brought a trio of new compositions—French Exit, Windows Down P.C.H., and Dave—each continuing the transparent ethos. The most recent addition, London 1983, arrived in 2026, referencing a historic moment in British fashion and scent culture. Throughout its evolution, Henry Rose has maintained a consistent narrative: fine fragrance can be both sophisticated and accountable, and the consumer deserves full knowledge of what they wear. Transparency sits at the core of Henry Rose’s creative vision. The brand believes that scent should be experienced without hidden chemicals, and that disclosure empowers shoppers to make informed choices about safety and sustainability. By publishing every ingredient, the house invites scrutiny and builds trust, a stance that aligns with the broader clean‑beauty movement. Gender is treated as a spectrum rather than a binary, so each perfume is marketed without masculine or feminine qualifiers, encouraging personal interpretation. Sustainability informs sourcing decisions; the company prefers ingredients that are responsibly harvested and works with suppliers who can verify traceability. The fragrance development process involves both natural extracts and synthetically derived aroma molecules, each selected for performance and disclosed on the label. This approach reflects a belief that artistry and science can coexist without compromise, allowing the nose to explore complex accords while the mind rests assured that the formula meets rigorous health standards.
