The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
My Burning Secret arrived in 2011 as Libertin Louison's first fougère, a category he had never been drawn to. The challenge was simple and exacting at once. Take the most recognizable masculine structure in perfumery, the aromatic fougère, and make it feel like something he actually wanted to wear. the community's editorial note puts it directly: Louison is not a fan of this aromatic group, which makes the choice to work in it all the more pointed. What he brings is a perfumer's instinct for contrast and personal vocabulary. The lavender that anchors most fougères becomes greener, more bracing, edged by geranium that leans peppery rather than sweet. The clove holds the center where it would normally warm the edges.
The result is a fougère built on tension rather than the usual template. Here the lavender arrives green and slightly bracing, edged by geranium that carries more bite than bloom. The clove does what it should not: it holds the center instead of warming the edges, giving the composition a smoldering, almost spicy quality from the heart onward. Louison treats every conventional move as a starting point to be questioned, and the listener can feel that negotiation in the wear.
The evolution
The opening minutes are all current and movement. Sea notes and Amalfi lemon arrive sharp and bright at the surface, with bergamot softening the corners and lending a rounder, almost edible warmth to the first impression. The citrus reads juicy rather than austere, and the marine accord underneath keeps it from collapsing into straightforward cologne territory. Then the shift happens. Lavender enters with a strange, herbal weight, grassy and slightly sharp where a smoother fougère would have offered something more cushioned. Geranium sits beside it, giving the heart a peppery green edge rather than the usual rosy sweetness, and the combination feels alive in a way that asks for attention. As the hours pass, clove takes the wheel. It does not whisper. It builds, warmed by amber and toned by pine, and it becomes the thing you keep catching on your wrist long after the opening has gone.
Cultural impact
Released in 2011, My Burning Secret sits as Technique Indiscrete's first fougère, and the genre skepticism Louison brought to it is what gives the composition its edge. He is not a fan of this aromatic group, and that distance shows in how the familiar fougère architecture gets tilted just enough to feel personal rather than borrowed. The lavender arrives greener and more bracing, the geranium leans peppery rather than sweet, and the clove holds the center where it would normally warm the edges.
