The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jequiti introduced Bella in 2013, working with DSM-Firmenich on a composition that would translate the everyday warmth of Brazilian coastal life into something wearable. The name carries intention, in Portuguese, 'Bella' is both a compliment and a state of being. Beautiful, effortless, present. DSM-Firmenich built the fragrance around a classic Chypre structure, which gave the sweet-fruity heart something to lean into rather than float above. The result was a scent designed not to impress, but to belong, to the morning commute, the lunch break, the casual evening that turns into something more.
What makes Bella structurally interesting is how the Chypre architecture controls the sweetness. A fruity-floral heart in Brazilian perfumery often risks feeling ephemeral, bright for an hour, then gone. The patchouli, musk, and cedar base does the quiet work of anchoring everything, giving the vanilla and praline something to settle into rather than simply evaporate. The praline note is the tell: it's sweet, yes, but it reads as warmth rather than confection, the difference between eating something in a kitchen and smelling it from across a sunlit room.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately, bergamot, lemon, mandarin orange arriving together with the green berries in tow. It's a citrus charge, almost tart, but the berry note keeps it from being sharp. Within minutes, the florals begin their slow rise: jasmine and freesia first, then the rose asserting itself, their powdery character becoming more pronounced as the citruses thin out. The heart phase is the longest, a warm, sweet garden that doesn't try to overwhelm. By hour two, the base takes over: vanilla and praline create an edible softness, sandalwood and cedar add creaminess without weight, and the patchouli grounds everything with an earthy hum that prevents the sweetness from floating away. Musk finishes it close to the skin. Four to six hours in, the drydown is intimate, what remains is warm, familiar, and quietly present.
Cultural impact
Bella has earned its place as a daily-wear staple since 2013, a fragrance that performs consistently without demanding attention. The sweet-fruity profile with warm Chypre undertones appeals broadly, and its moderate sillage makes it comfortable for close environments. It's the kind of scent that wears well in spring and fall, and earns its place in the rotation for anyone who wants warmth without weight.
