Classique Summer 2008 arrived as a seasonal variant of Jean Paul Gaultier's signature floral amber. By 2008, the house's fragrance operation sat under Shiseido's Beauté Prestige International, and seasonal summer drops had become a recurring offering. This particular edition stripped back the density of the original while keeping its floral amber DNA recognizable. The same warm, sweet floral skeleton, retuned for longer days and warmer skin. Released in a beige bottle with African-inspired motifs, it was a limited seasonal drop that turned the familiar DNA into something more breathable.
What makes this composition interesting is what it keeps versus what it sheds. The original Classique leans on a dense amber base, heavy materials that anchor the scent's identity. Summer 2008 swaps some of that warmth for clementine and Sicilian lemon at the top, citrus notes that flash and dissolve instead of building. The floral heart stays generous with jasmine Sambac, ylang-ylang, and iris, but there's nothing heavy anchoring the construction until vanilla and musk arrive. The result is a composition that feels airy while keeping enough density to still read as Gaultier.
