The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Pomelo Assoluto opens with a brilliant burst of citrus, pomelo taking center stage with grapefruit supporting in the background. The citrus here avoids any cloying sweetness, instead presenting itself in a crisp, almost tart manner that feels immediate and lively. Marine notes appear early in the development, lending a cool, watery quality that keeps things fresh without feeling generic. Green tea arrives in the heart, its slightly bitter, vegetal character providing contrast to the bright opening. Magnolia softens the transition, adding a gentle floral layer that tempers the tea's astringency. White musk and white woods emerge in the base, creating a clean, almost transparent drydown that lingers without becoming heavy.
In Pomelo Assoluto, pomelo and grapefruit arrive clean and almost sharp, held in place by pink pepper that adds a spice without heat. There's an interesting tension between the bright citrus and the cooler elements that follow. Green tea and magnolia arrive almost simultaneously, taking the fragrance in a cooler, more contemplative direction. The green tea brings its characteristic slightly bitter, leafy quality while magnolia offers a soft, creamier floral note that rounds out the edge.
The evolution
The first twenty minutes are the citrus hour, pomelo dominant, grapefruit supporting, a whisper of pink pepper keeping things from feeling too easy. Then the transition begins. Green tea appears first, slightly bitter, cutting through the brightness that dominates the opening. Magnolia follows, soft and slightly sweet against the tea's astringency. Juniper berries add a faint resinous quality that prevents the heart from becoming purely green. By the second hour, the rose and cardamom are barely detectable, they're there as texture, not presence. The drydown is where Pomelo Assoluto earns its name. White musk and white woods create something that smells like the memory of clean skin, not actual skin. Amber adds just enough weight to prevent the whole thing from disappearing.
Cultural impact
Part of the I Turchesi collection, Pomelo Assoluto presents itself as something different within its category. The marine notes push it into cooler territory, almost mineral in feeling, before the green tea and magnolia take over. The citrus accord avoids the expected sweetness, instead building on sharp, clean lines that feel more sophisticated than typical fresh compositions. This combination of bright opening and cooler heart creates something with enough character to stand apart from more conventional options in the space.
