Why it exists.
The beginning
Stereope is one star in the Titani collection from Giardino Benessere, composed by Paolo Terenzi and released in 2022. The fragrance gathers its materials from a wide geographic spread, bright citrus sourced from Sicily and Calabria alongside Brazilian orange, aromatic herbs drawn from regional Italian gardens, and hardwoods including Indonesian teakwood and Cambodian oud. The intent is straightforward: a citrus-forward composition grounded by materials usually reserved for denser, more resinous fragrances. The collection places Stereope alongside other titles that share this approach, blending familiar Mediterranean brightness with deeper base materials to create something that reads as fresh on the surface but carries considerable weight underneath.
What makes Stereope unusual is the sheer range of citrus compressed into a single opening. Sicilian grapefruit, Brazilian orange, Calabrian bergamot, Italian lemon, Italian mandarin orange, and Indonesian teakwood share the top notes, each contributing a different shade of brightness and warmth. The grapefruit carries a sharp, almost bitter edge, while the orange and mandarin round things out with riper, sweeter juice. Bergamot adds its characteristic floral-tart lift, and the teakwood gives the entire opening a wooden substructure that prevents the citrus from feeling two-dimensional.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are loud in the best way. Grapefruit and bergamot hit first, sharp and cold, almost carbonated. The lemon and mandarin orange round the edges, and Indonesian teakwood slips in underneath, giving the citrus a wooden spine so it doesn't read as mere cologne. From twenty minutes to the first hour, the aromatics take over: sage comes in dry and herbal, ginger adds a clean warmth, and cardamom dusts everything with a slightly smoky sweetness. The citrus doesn't vanish. It just stops leading. By hour three, the base has settled: Bourbon vanilla softens everything, Singapore patchouli adds an earthy dampness, and Cambodian oud hums beneath, more suggestion than statement. The musk wraps it all in a skin-scent warmth. As the hours pass, the drydown shifts further into the base materials, with the vanilla and patchouli taking on a quieter, more intimate character.
