The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name says everything. Narcisse is a tribute to the flower that Aubrac plateau pickers have gathered by hand each spring, a bloom so coveted by perfumers it earned the title of white gold. Karine Dubreuil created this fragrance in 2023. The harvest can't be predicted. Nature decides when the flowers reach peak anthesis, and the pickers follow. That spontaneity, that dependence on the season, is what makes the scent rare. There is something almost ritualistic about the way the pickers move through the fields, selecting only those blooms that have reached their fullest expression. The fragrance captures that careful selection, that reverence for the flower's natural timeline rather than forcing nature to conform to a production schedule.
What makes the Narcisse heart unusual is the interplay between three white florals that don't compete, they amplify. The narcissus absolute carries a green, slightly bitter sweetness that sets it apart from jasmine or rose. The Egyptian jasmine adds warmth and depth, the kind that fills a room without projecting. The Turkish rose contributes a subtle spiced edge that keeps the whole heart from reading as purely delicate. Together, they create a white floral that feels considered rather than overwhelming. The honey in the base isn't literal sweetness, it's the echo of the flower's own nectar, turned quiet and close to the skin.
The evolution
The opening arrives clean and bright. Tangerine and bergamot hit first, followed by the green bitterness of petitgrain, a stem-snap quality that signals spring before the flower even appears. Then the heart arrives: narcissus absolute with its distinctive green-honey character, supported by jasmine and a Turkish rose that adds just enough spice to keep things interesting. The honey doesn't wait for the drydown. It starts blending with the florals within the first hour, creating a warmth that carries the scent through the afternoon without ever becoming heavy. By evening, the base settles, musk and woody notes that keep the florals close to the skin, a whisper rather than a statement. The citrus opening gives way to something earthier, as if the petals are being crushed between fingers, releasing their oils into the air.
Cultural impact
Narcisse rewards attention. The white floral story, the Aubrac harvest narrative, the restraint in the drydown: these elements work together to create something that speaks quietly but with conviction. It's for those who appreciate the craft behind a well-made scent and don't need the fragrance to prove it for them.
