The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Rodrigo Flores-Roux created Paradise Moon in 2021, drawing inspiration from the osmanthus flower. The small, fragrant bloom appears only briefly each year, and its scent has made it a favorite of the Chinese for centuries. In that culture, osmanthus appears in teas, in cuisine, in medicine, and in perfumes. Flores-Roux saw the flower's potential and wanted to explore what it could do when given prominence in a composition. The result is a fragrance that places the osmanthus at its center, building a surrounding structure that supports rather than overshadows its natural character. The flower arrives bright and immediate, its apricot-laden sweetness filling the opening with an unmistakable presence.
What makes Paradise Moon distinctive is how it treats its own structure. In this fragrance, the leather arrives mid-development, meeting the osmanthus while both are still at full strength. Rather than arriving late as a foundation note, the leather enters the composition while the floral is still expressing itself fully, creating a layered effect where both notes are audible simultaneously. The labdanum plays a connecting role here, adding warmth and depth that helps bridge the transition from the initial floral burst toward the final drydown.
The evolution
The osmanthus opens bright and immediate, radiating with apricot-like sweetness and the unmistakable character of this small, precious flower. This phase carries a slightly sweet, fruity quality that feels floral without being delicate or faint. The osmanthus asserts itself confidently in the opening, its apricot and honeyed tones creating warmth that invites closer attention. Around the transition, the leather becomes more apparent, not harsh or industrial in character but textured and warm, present in a way that adds dimension rather than dominating the composition. The labdanum continues its bridging role during this phase, its warm resinous quality tying the leather to the osmanthus that remains visible above it.
