The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Brin de Lavande arrived in 2018 as an eau de parfum from Durance en Provence. The name means a sprig of lavender, and the composition wears that title plainly. Mandarin Orange and Bergamot bring brightness, Clary Sage adds a cool herbal edge, and the heart settles into Myrrh, Rosemary and Lavender. The base turns warmer with Labdanum, Vanilla and Incense. It's a lavender fragrance that refuses to stay in the herb garden, opening with lively citrus and green notes before settling into a warmer, resinous and gently sweet trail.
What makes Brin de Lavande worth a closer look is the give and take between its top notes and its base. Citrus and clary sage cut sharp and green at first, while the heart settles into resinous myrrh, rosemary and lavender. Then Vanilla, Incense and Labdanum take over, and the whole thing turns creamy and balsamic. Lavender is the obvious note, but its balance between that bright opening and that warm resinous drydown gives the composition depth and movement as it develops on skin.
The evolution
The first impression is crisp. Mandarin Orange and Bergamot spark, Clary Sage lays down a cool, slightly savory green, and for a moment this could be a bright summer herbal. Then Myrrh and Rosemary arrive, and Lavender settles into the middle as something rounder and fuller than the opening suggested. The surprise arrives later, when Vanilla and Incense take over and the scent turns creamy, warm and faintly sweet, closer to a honeyed resin than a bouquet of dried herbs. Labdanum gives it weight and a leather-like depth. Over time, the bright opening gives way gradually, while the warm base remains close and softly present.
Cultural impact
Brin de Lavande offers a distinct interpretation of lavender, and the reactions to its sweetness and resinous warmth can vary. The vanilla and incense give the composition a dessert-like edge for those who prefer a soft, warm lavender, while the brighter citrus and clary sage provide a fresher opening for others. That contrast gives the fragrance room for interpretation. It is less restrained than a straightforward herbal lavender, with enough vanilla, incense and labdanum to shift the mood as it develops.
