The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The One began in 2006 as a warm, amber-rich ode to timeless romance. Nine years later, Michel Girard took that DNA and asked: what if the same story played out brighter, powderier, with madonna lily as the leading lady? The 2017 EDT arrived as a reinterpretation, not a replacement, an echo from a different angle. The campaign drew from the spirit of Naples, filmed by Matteo Garrone, with Emilia Clarke as the face. Charismatic, lively women full of energy and life. That's who this scent was designed for.
What makes The One EDT distinctive is the powdery trajectory. The white florals, madonna lily, orange blossom, ylang-ylang, don't just bloom; they dust. Combined with the white peach sweetness and anchored by vetiver's earthy counterweight, the composition stays warm without becoming heavy. It's the kind of layering that rewards attention: the initial citrus brightness gives way to something richer, then settles into a skin-close warmth that lingers for hours. Michel Girard understood that the original's amber richness needed a different rhythm here, one that breathes more freely but doesn't disappear.
The evolution
The opening announces itself quickly, bergamot, mandarin, a burst of lychee and white peach that reads juicy for about 30 minutes. Then the florals take the stage. Madonna lily and orange blossom arrive together, creamy and lush, with the broom absolute adding an unexpected golden-green depth beneath them. This heart lasts a solid few hours, sweet but never cloying, before the vetiver and vanilla begin to settle in. The drydown is where The One EDT becomes intimate. Musk wraps around the vetiver, the vanilla softens everything into a powdery warmth that stays close, present on skin but not filling a room. Projection drops noticeably after the first hour, but the longevity holds. You're still catching traces of it at the 6-8 hour mark.
Cultural impact
The 2017 launch arrived with Emilia Clarke, the star of Game of Thrones, as the campaign face, filmed by director Matteo Garrone. The fragrance draws inspiration from the spirit of Naples, designed for charismatic women who carry themselves with presence and energy. The One EDT positions itself as a mainstream floral, appealing to those who appreciate white florals with powdery warmth and lasting depth.
