Why it exists.
The beginning
Ode al Fico is Dedé Arte Profumata's 2025 meditation on a single image: a fig tree in full leaf, the surprise of what lies beneath the foliage. The composition was drafted as an olfactory still life, one plant, one mood, nothing decorative around it. The name Ode signals intent, an offering addressed to the fig itself, rooted in reverence for the subject rather than a literal transcription of its scent. Previous launches from the house have explored absinthe and neroli sugar, each one a concrete visual brief reduced to scent. The fig tree is the most Italian subject the house has tackled, and the most stubbornly green. There is a vegetal stubbornness to it, a refusal to behave like a typical fruity composition, and that resistance is precisely where the fragrance earns its character.
Three forms of fig anchor the composition, and that is unusual. Fig leaf contributes the green, woody character of the foliage, the outer shell of the tree's identity. Fig fruit adds the ripe, jammy sweetness at the heart of the accord. Fig milk, a creamy note drawn from the sap-like quality of the fig, supplies the lactonic undertone that keeps the whole thing from reading as just another green cologne. It is a triplet rarely assembled with this much care, and it gives the fragrance a quality most fig scents lack: dimension. The green and the sweet don't compete. They share the same branch.
The evolution
The opening belongs to the aromatics. Coriander and cardamom push through the bergamot and lemon like herbs crushed between warm fingers, while myrtle adds a herbal sweetness on the tail of the citrus. Lavender enters alongside them, smoothing the herbal edge into something more rounded and wearable, a counterweight to the brighter citrus notes that would otherwise read as sharp or fleeting. Then the fig takes over, and it takes its time. Fig leaf and fig arrive almost simultaneously, the green-skin crack and the ripe pulp hitting in the same breath. Violet leaf sharpens the green into something cooler, more mineral, while raspberry leaf adds a faint tartness that keeps the lactonic sweetness from turning sticky. The drydown is where this earns its keep. Ambergris and sandalwood settle into a warm, almost amber-honey base, and benzoin wraps it in a soft resin.
