The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Nicola Bianchi set out to capture the paradox of raw leather softened by sweet amber when Cristiana Bellodi launched B in 2016. Drawing on the house Italian roots, he selected labdanum and incense to evoke a smoky hearth, while dates added a jammy depth that deepened the warmth. Leather provided the tactile anchor, keeping the composition grounded in something real rather than purely conceptual. The result was a fragrance that honored traditional Italian craftsmanship while embracing modern perfumery's fuller palette.
B reflects Bianchi's belief that leather and sweetness are not opposites but natural partners. Labdanum and incense were chosen for their ability to create atmosphere without dominating, while dates were included to add a specific kind of fruit-driven warmth that pure amber cannot achieve. The heart uses oud as a statement ingredient, one that demands attention, balanced by patchouli's grounded earth and ylang-ylang's softening floral quality. Cedarwood connects the heart to the base, creating a woody thread that runs through the fragrance. The drydown prioritizes comfort: ambrette keeps things clean, vanilla adds sweetness without cloying, and tonka bean bridges the gap between warmth and softness.
The evolution
The fragrance opens with labdanum and incense creating an immediate sense of warmth, their smoky, resinous character softened slightly by the sweetness of dates. Leather remains present from the start, giving the opening a material quality. Orange appears briefly, offering a citrus counterpoint that prevents the opening from becoming heavy. As the heart develops, oud introduces a darker, more complex woodiness, and patchouli adds earthiness. Ylang-ylang brings a creamy floral element that enriches the transition. Cedarwood provides structural support, ensuring the heart feels cohesive rather than scattered. The drydown brings relief: ambrette's muskiness smooths the oud's edges, amber and tonka bean provide warmth, and vanilla lingers as the final impression.
Cultural impact
Since its 2016 debut, B has become a quiet favorite among collectors who appreciate a bold leather‑incense opening tempered by a refined amber drydown. Its minimalist yet daring composition places it alongside classic orientals while standing out for its Italian clarity. Wearers often cite its ability to transition from evening outings to Intimate gatherings, making it a versatile staple in niche fragrance wardrobes.
