The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Francis Kurkdjian wanted to capture something specific: the luminosity of London after rain. Not a grey, bleak rain, he meant the way the city seems to glow in that particular light. The original My Burberry launched in 2014, and the Festive edition arrived a year later as a limited edition, designed for the holiday season. Kurkdjian reinterpreted that same idea of freshness and glow, but added the warmth of the holidays, a golden shimmer in the bottle itself, a ribbon in light gold at its neck. The Festive edition reimagines the original concept for winter, translating that same luminosity into a warm, celebratory context.
What makes the Festive edition interesting isn't just the gold glitter, it's the quince. Quince is a underrated note: waxy, honeyed, slightly tart, like a pear that forgot to be sweet. Here it sits between the freesia and the rose, giving the heart a spiced, almost autumnal quality that stops the florals from going too precious. Combined with the bourbon geranium (more herbal, less sweet than standard geranium), you've got a composition that balances brightness with depth. The patchouli at the base is dry and elegant, not muddy, this is a British idea of warmth, restrained and refined.
The evolution
The opening hits fresh and green, sweet pea announces itself first, that slightly dewy, garden-stem quality that makes it different from other florals. Bergamot follows, lending a citrus brightness that feels cold-air clean. Within twenty minutes, the freesia and quince emerge, and the composition shifts from garden to kitchen, warm, spiced, like quince paste reducing on the stove. The rose doesn't arrive all at once. It builds. Damask rose unfolds slowly over the next hour, wrapping around the quince's honeyed warmth until the two feel inseparable. Patchouli arrives last, dry, earthy, grounding everything. By hour three, you've got a rose-patchouli base that stays close to skin but lingers. The drydown on fabric the next morning still carries a faint floral warmth, like a room someone just left.
Cultural impact
My Burberry Festive launched exclusively at Neiman Marcus in 2015 as a 90ml Eau de Parfum. The golden shimmer inside the bottle adds a visual element that connects to the festive season, a decorative touch that makes the fragrance feel like part of the celebration. The scent itself carries warm, floral notes that evoke the holiday season, with a blend of flowers and spices that feels both recognizably Burberry and distinctly seasonal. The Festive edition has found appreciation among those who associate the holidays with this particular character, a floral warmth that feels at home during autumn evenings and winter gatherings.
