The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2008, Christophe Raynaud approached the Benetton fragrance universe, tasked with creating a youthful masculine scent that felt effortless rather than ceremonial. Not a statement fragrance. Something you'd reach for before heading out the door and forget you were wearing entirely. Raynaud built it around tropical fruit and aromatic spice, layering sweetness against herbal freshness with deliberate ease. The result captures the energy of sun-ripe pineapple and tangerine brightness without overwhelming the wearer. Each note arrives without ceremony, settling into a composition that whispers rather than shouts, managing to feel both vibrant and understated at once.
What makes the structure interesting is how the fruit and the spice never quite settle into the same space. The pineapple and tangerine want warmth; the lavender and cardamom want sharpness. They coexist without merging. Geranium bridges the gap with a green floral quality that feels almost medicinal, a subtle tension that keeps the heart from becoming purely sweet. It's this push and pull that gives the fragrance its character: approachable but not quite comfortable, bright but not entirely simple.
The evolution
The opening announces itself with immediate authority. Lavender and cardamom arrive together, the herbal and the spicy, already negotiating territory. Neither waits for the other. Within twenty minutes, the tangerine pushes through, and the pineapple follows, rounding the composition into something tropical and unexpectedly sweet. The geranium and nutmeg layer in, creating a fruity-herbal middle that reads neither classically masculine nor entirely modern. As the fragrance develops further, oakmoss and amber take their turn anchoring the composition, shifting the brightness into something softer and more intimate as the top notes recede. The drydown becomes a mossy whisper, skin-close and understated.
Cultural impact
As part of Benetton's broader fragrance portfolio, this 2008 release aligns with the house's tradition of approachable, wear-anywhere compositions. The brand's identity, colorful, youthful, globally recognizable, translates into scents that prioritize ease over complexity. It's the fragrance equivalent of a well-worn cotton t-shirt: comfortable, uncomplicated, and designed for repeated daily use rather than special occasions.
