The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Charisma arrived in 2024 as part of Moudon's Noir Mat Collection, nine releases in a single year, a pace that suggests a house building momentum through sheer volume of ideas. The fragrance takes its name from a quality that can't be manufactured: the thing that makes someone remember you in a room full of people. The composition reflects that ambition, an opening that announces itself without apology, a heart that rewards patience, and a base that lingers long after the moment has passed.
What makes Charisma work is the tension between its notes. The cardamom-fig pairing at the opening is warm and slightly sweet, but the iris that follows is cool and powdery, a counterweight that keeps the fragrance from tipping into something soft. The jasmine and white flowers in the heart add depth without sweetness, which is harder to do than it sounds. Most fragrances in this space lean into the warmth and call it done. Charisma builds something more layered. The woody base (sandalwood, cedar, vetiver) grounds everything in something dry and slightly earthy, which is what makes the drydown feel earned rather than inevitable.
The evolution
Charisma opens sharp, cardamom and fig arriving together, a sweetness that doesn't tiptoe. The fig softens within minutes while the cardamom deepens, becoming less aggressive and more resinous. This is the transition that matters: from immediate impact to something that settles. The heart arrives around the 20-minute mark, and it's where the fragrance earns its name. The iris takes over, powdery, slightly sweet, impeccably composed. Jasmine adds richness without weight, and the white flowers create a fullness that feels elegant rather than overwhelming. This phase lasts for hours, holding steady as it slowly yields to the base. The drydown is where Charisma shows its staying power. Amber warms without cloying. Tonka bean adds creaminess that fights with the earthiness of patchouli and vetiver, a tension that keeps things interesting. Sandalwood and cedar carry the weight, their woody character pulling everything forward into a finish that is close to the skin but impossible to ignore.
Cultural impact
Charisma sits in a space that is becoming increasingly crowded: warm, woody fragrances with powdery florals and a sense of composed confidence. The 2024 release arrived alongside eight other new fragrances from Moudon, suggesting a house that is building through volume rather than waiting for perfection. The comparison to BDK Gris Charnel is inevitable, both fragrances lean on iris and a warm woody base, but Charisma distinguishes itself through its opening (fig and cardamom) and its extrait de parfum concentration, which gives the drydown a density that is harder to achieve in lighter formats.
