Sânziană takes its name from the Sânziene, the luminous fairies of Romanian folklore who dance through forests on the eve of midsummer. According to legend, they appear at the threshold between spring and summer, blessing the land and those who wander into their path. Giovanni Festa, the perfumer behind Aulentissima's 2025 launch, translated that folkloric threshold into a woody floral, letting the mythic lightness of the sânziene meet the grounded weight of guaiac wood and tonka. The result is a fragrance that reads as both enchanted and earthly, suspended between the bright opening and the warm, lingering base.
What makes this composition unusual is the tension between its freshness and its gourmand undertone. Raspberry and bergamot suggest something lifted, almost ephemeral, while Evernyl and tonka pull toward something denser, more confectionary. The black pepper is the hinge, lending a controlled heat that keeps the sweetness from tipping into syrup. Festa's choice to pair guaiac wood with such a luminous floral opening creates a deliberate imbalance, one that the wearer feels rather than analyzes.
The evolution
The opening is all sharpness: black pepper and bergamot cut through, with raspberry threading underneath like a quiet pulse. Lavender settles in to soften the edges, and for a brief window the fragrance reads almost aromatic and herbal, closer to a fougère than a floral. Soon after, the florals arrive, rose and jasmine coming together with guaiac wood lending a low hum beneath. The composition shifts into something warmer and more opaque. The drydown is where it lands, and it stays there for a good while. Tonka bean and Evernyl create a clean, almost edible warmth, with the gourmand accord adding a vague sweetness that reads more as sensation than as sugar.
