The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Pride by Night arrived in 2024 from Athoor Al Alam. No perfumer credit or named inspiration was disclosed, so the composition tells its own story. Bergamot, clary sage, juniper berries, and lemon give the fragrance an aromatic citrus opening, with a crisp, herbal character and a bright green edge. The heart settles into a more tactile blend of cardamom, frankincense, sandalwood, and tea, where resinous warmth meets smooth wood and a restrained herbal softness. The name suggests confidence after dark, yet the composition itself is more composed than theatrical, balancing freshness with a grounded woody finish.
Its central surprise is the balance between cool aromatic clarity and a warm woody base. Juniper berries lend a crisp, lightly camphorated quality, while clary sage contributes a muted herbal character. Cardamom adds a gentle aromatic intensity, frankincense brings a restrained resinous depth, and sandalwood keeps the center polished and smooth. Tea ties the brighter materials to the warmer ones, creating a composed transition as the citrus facets recede. As the fragrance settles, the cooler opening gives way to a soft, woody trail with enough brightness to remain lively on skin.
The evolution
The opening begins on clean citrus energy, with bergamot and lemon cutting through clary sage and the sharper snap of juniper berries. As those notes soften, cardamom warms the center while frankincense adds a resinous, lightly smoky layer. Sandalwood and tea turn that activity inward, creating a smoother stretch where woody elegance replaces citrus sparkle. In the drydown, cedarwood and patchouli bring depth, while amber and cashmeran round the composition into a warm, powdery trail. Over time, the initial brightness gradually settles into a close, plush, and softly woody finish, with the later notes giving the fragrance a calm, enveloping presence rather than a dramatic oud statement.
Cultural impact
Pride by Night can be explored as a study in contrast, pairing bright citrus and herbal notes with resin, wood, spice, and a warm powdery drydown. Bergamot and lemon provide the initial lift, while clary sage and juniper berries keep the opening crisp and aromatic. Cardamom, frankincense, sandalwood, and tea create a more intimate center, and cedarwood, patchouli, amber, and cashmeran make the final impression feel soft and woody. Its appeal lies in this gradual movement between freshness, texture, and warmth, making it inviting to discover on skin and throughout the day.
