The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Safari Tobacco arrived in 2025 from Athoor Al Alam, a Dubai-based fragrance house founded in 2013. The name points toward a journey, but the composition feels less like an escape than a well-packed coat: dark fruit, warm spice, cocoa, and tobacco gathered into something easy to carry. There’s no named perfumer or documented inspiration to add, so the scent tells its own story. Cinnamon and plum make the first impression. Cocoa brings the center of gravity. Cedarwood, sandalwood, tobacco, tonka bean, and vanilla give it a grounded finish.
The combination works because fruit and tobacco share a convincing kind of darkness. Plum gives the opening a rounded, syrupy warmth, while cinnamon adds a clean flicker of spice. Cocoa pulls both into a richer center, less dessert than dark chocolate with its edges left intact. Cedarwood and sandalwood add structure, preventing the gourmand notes from becoming one long sweet ribbon. Tobacco brings a dry, smoky depth, while tonka bean and vanilla soften the finish without making it feel innocent.
The evolution
At first, Safari Tobacco is bright in a deep way. Plum rounds the opening while cinnamon introduces a dry, cinnamon-stick heat, and the combination feels more like spiced fruit than fresh citrus. As the heart arrives, cocoa takes over with a darker, almost roasted presence. The scent then shifts toward wood and tobacco, where cedarwood and sandalwood make the composition feel composed rather than merely sweet. Tonka bean and vanilla linger as a creamy trace, but tobacco keeps a little distance from the skin. By the later hours, the fragrance reads as warm wood, cocoa, and a soft plume of smoke. With moderate projection and steady longevity, it settles into a close, enduring trail rather than filling the room.
Cultural impact
Safari Tobacco fits the brand’s approach of making regional aromatic traditions feel easy to carry into modern daily life. Its unisex positioning and 2025 release place it within Athoor Al Alam’s broader move toward inclusive fragrance, where oud, amber, spice, woods, and gourmand elements can sit comfortably beyond formal occasions.
