The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Areej Le Dore, founded in 2017 in Indonesia, built its reputation on pure oud and sandalwood attars with minimalist presentation. The house name itself references the vast, untouched taiga of Siberia, that immense stretch of coniferous wilderness stretching across northern Russia. Russian Adam designed Siberian Musk as a fragrance that bridges two opposing climates: the biting cold of the Siberian taiga and the warm, resinous darkness of oud-laden forests. The opening begins in that frozen wilderness, with Siberian Pine and a bright citrus accord capturing the sharp, clean air of extreme northern latitudes. It is a deliberate choice, grounding the wearer in a specific geography before the fragrance deepens into warmer territory.
The note structure of Siberian Musk reflects a deliberate philosophy of contrast. The opening uses Siberian Pine and citrus to establish a cold, almost clinical freshness, while the heart transitions to warm woods and musk to create intimacy. The drydown completes the arc by layering oud, patchouli, and vetiver, turning the fragrance into something that reads as dark, resinous, and deeply grounded. Each phase represents a different aspect of the wilderness the brand evokes: the frozen surface, the living forest, and the deep earth beneath. This progression ensures the fragrance never feels static, evolving over hours into something substantially different from where it began.
The evolution
The opening of Siberian Musk feels like stepping into a frost-covered pine forest at dawn. Siberian Pine dominates, its sharp coniferous character immediately distinctive, while a bright citrus blend of lime, bergamot, and mandarin lifts the air with clean, sparkling energy. Exotic fruits add a subtle tropical undertone that prevents the opening from feeling purely austere. As the top notes recede, the heart phase introduces a warm, intimate character built around musk as a central pillar. Cypress and sandalwood lend a dry, woody structure while galbanum provides a green, slightly bitter counterpoint. Orange blossom softens the heart with faint floral sweetness, and spicy notes add warmth and complexity. The drydown is where Siberian Musk reveals its true depth. Musk persists, now intertwined with cypress, but the addition of oud introduces a dark, resinous richness that anchors the fragrance. Patchouli and vetiver create a rich, earthy bass that settles close to the skin, while amber adds a faint golden warmth that gives the final phase remarkable longevity.
Cultural impact
Among niche collectors, Siberian Musk has become a touchstone for those drawn to authentic animalic scents. Its bold deer‑musk core polarises opinions, some praise its raw honesty, others find it too primal for everyday wear. The fragrance often appears in winter‑focused scent round‑ups, praised for its ability to cut through cold air without becoming icy. Its limited‑edition status and the brand’s reputation for pure attars add a sense of exclusivity that fuels discussion on fragrance forums.
