Why it exists.
The beginning
Par Amour Pour Lui arrived in 2019 as one half of a matched pair. Its name means 'For Love, For Him,' and the concept was direct: an anthem of masculine love, rendered in scent rather than song. Lucien Ferrero composed it as part of his debut collection under Anthologie, the house he launched that same year. The brief was warmth without softness. Strength without volume. Ferrero reached for Andalusian leather and blond tobacco leaves as his anchors, two materials that carry centuries of masculine coding without leaning on the usual fougère shortcuts. The opening moves with a green brightness from coriander and tarragon, the herbs almost talking over each other before bergamot settles the edges into something cleaner and more deliberate.
What sets this composition apart is the hay absolute. It is a strange ingredient, dry and golden, somewhere between a sunlit barn and a memory of straw hats and saddle rooms. Placed next to leather and tobacco, it brings an outdoor rusticity that grounds the whole composition in something earthier than polished cologne. The carnation leaves add a clove-edged sharpness to the heart, while Provençal lavender and tarragon in the opening keep things from going too dense too fast.
The evolution
The first quarter hour crackles. Coriander, tarragon, and bergamot arrive with an almost fizzy bite, the kind of green that wakes up a room before the rest of the fragrance has finished getting dressed. Labdanum registers underneath, already grounding things with its resinous hum. Then the middle takes over, and it is a different scent entirely. Leather and tobacco absolute take center stage, blond and honeyed, smelling faintly of an open jacket and a warmer evening. Styrax adds a benzoin sweetness, while hay absolute gives it that rust-colored dryness, the sense of golden fields and saddle leather sharing a quiet room. The heart lasts two to three hours before anything shifts, which is unusual for a composition with this many bright materials in the opening.
