The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
F2 begins with a quote the perfumer wrote down: 'Today I remembered what I was taught and how wrong it was.' David-Lev Jipa-Slivinschi built the fragrance around that rejection, of rules, of convention, of what a fragrance is supposed to smell like. The aldehydes arrive first, sharp and medicinal in character. As they soften, the composition turns powdery, taking on the soft, talc-like quality of heliotrope and mimosa. The base settles into animalic territory, with synthetic civet and musk providing warmth and presence. Each note exists within this structure, creating a fragrance that moves through distinct phases rather than remaining static.
Eight top notes. Eleven heart notes. Nine base notes. The synthetic civet and oakmoss anchor the whole thing in chypre territory, but the florals push outward in every direction. Heliotrope and mimosa add powdery sweetness that fills the mid-palate. Wisteria adds something almost soapy, floral and distinct. Orris root and labdanum provide a waxy, resinous middle ground that bridges the transition between heart and base. The rose and plum introduce soft sweetness without becoming saccharine, while cinnamon and palmarosa warm the composition from within.
The evolution
The opening arrives with force. Aldehydes flood the space, sharp and almost medicinal, before the citrus cuts through, bergamot, lemon, neroli bringing brightness and clarity. Thirty minutes in, the florals begin their takeover. Heliotrope and mimosa layer into something powdery and full. The green notes, pine, galbanum, persist underneath, keeping the florals from floating away entirely. Cinnamon arrives in the heart, warm and unexpected, mixing with plum's sweetness and the soft floral qualities of rose. Wisteria adds its distinctive floral character, while orris root and labdanum provide waxy, resinous depth that anchors the heart notes. By hour three, the base notes assert themselves. Benzoin and vanilla create a warm, slightly sweet drydown. Oakmoss and patchouli keep it grounded in earthy, resinous depth.
Cultural impact
The synthetic civet and dense floral heart draw comparisons to vintage chypre structures, but the turmeric and the overall density push it into more contemporary territory. F2 occupies an interesting position in the niche fragrance landscape, combining elements of classical perfumery with a compositional approach that feels distinctly modern. The aldehydic opening immediately establishes a particular character, one that signals a fragrance meant to be noticed rather than ignored. The interplay between the powdery florals and animalic base creates a fragrance that rewards close attention, revealing different facets as it develops on the skin.
