The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Toskovat' operates from a philosophy of extrait de memoire, building compositions around personal recollection rather than ingredient convention. David-Lev Jipa approached Annacamento as memory as destination, asking not what ingredients to combine but what moment to capture. The brief centered on the sensory texture of a specific morning: citrus light through windows, the unexpected indulgence of breakfast, the grounding presence of trees. Jipa translated these sensory anchors into fragrance architecture, selecting lemon verbena and orange for their aromatic clarity, then constructing a heart around the unusual decision to include pancake and whipped cream. The choice was deliberate. These are ingredients that carry emotional weight, that evoke rather than impress. In the drydown, mastic and cypress anchor the memory in landscape, transforming personal recollection into something that feels universal.
The philosophy behind Annacamento reflects Toskovat's broader commitment to extrait de memoire. Rather than beginning with a perfumery convention or a market gap, Jipa began with a moment: the specific sensory texture of a morning that mattered. The notes were selected to capture that moment's components rather than to achieve a predetermined olfactory effect. Lemon verbena and orange represent the light. Pancake and whipped cream represent the indulgence. Rum and raisin represent the memory's darker undertone. Broom and frangipani represent the environment's floral presence. Mastic, cypress, and the remaining drydown notes represent the landscape itself, the physical place where the memory occurred.
The evolution
The opening of Annacamento arrives like morning sunlight through glass. Lemon verbena provides an herbaceous citrus precision, while orange lends sweetness that is never superficial. The prickly pear adds textural depth, a slightly alien succulence that makes the opening memorable. As the fragrance moves into its heart, the composition makes its boldest statement: pancake accord and whipped cream create a gourmand warmth that could feel gimmicky in isolation, but rum and raisin temper the sweetness with something darker and more contemplative. Broom, the shrubby Mediterranean plant associated with perfumery's more abstract florals, and frangipani add complexity, preventing the heart from becoming merely edible. The drydown is where Annacamento earns its sophistication. Mastic or lentisque delivers the green, piney character of Greek landscapes. Cypress and cedarwood provide structure. Oak adds a dry, tannic quality that recalls wooden surfaces.
Cultural impact
Annacamento has attracted attention within niche fragrance circles for its distinctive aquatic-gourmand profile. Wearers describe a scent experience that resists easy categorization, blending edible warmth with unexpected freshness. The composition appeals to those seeking something outside conventional fragrance families, with notable persistence throughout the wear.
