The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Mahsam Raza built Pearl Of Amber in 2025 as part of The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. It smells similar to Durra Ambre by The Spirit of Dubai, a fragrance built around rich caramel, deep amber, and smooth vanilla. Raza kept those bones, layering aquatic brightness and a constellation of florals over the resinous base. The opening carries a cool, almost briny lift from the aquatic accord, the kind that catches you off guard before the warmth even registers. Grapefruit adds a pithy edge, bergamot softens it into something rounder, and ambrette weaves a musky, skin-like thread through the early minutes. By the time the florals bloom, the caramel has begun to brown at the edges, picking up a toasted quality that sits comfortably against the frankincense.
What makes this composition worth a second look is the tension between its top and its base. Ambrette, bergamot, grapefruit, and a wash of aquatic notes do the opening work, dewy, almost mineral, and almost deliberately cool. That early brightness buys the wearer time. It sets up expectations of something green or sharp, then the middle arrives with frankincense, elemi, coconut, honey, and a dozen florals, and the caramel-amber-vanilla base seals the deal.
The evolution
The first thirty minutes are nearly misleading. Ambrette and aquatic notes create a dewy, almost watery coolness, grapefruit and bergamot adding a citric edge, pink and black pepper buzzing underneath. You might think you've grabbed the wrong bottle. Then the florals arrive, and they arrive together. Jasmine sambac, magnolia, freesia, geranium, lily of the valley, tea rose, all of them cushioned by coconut, honey, and a thread of saffron. The peach softens the whole thing. It becomes creamy, almost edible, before the base even shows up. Once the drydown settles, this is where Pearl Of Amber earns its name. Caramel and vanilla arrive first, then amber, patchouli, vetiver, ambroxan, and a leather-Cypriol shadow that keeps the sweetness from going flat. Sandalwood and cashmeran give it skin. Musk softens the edges. On fabric the next morning, you'll still catch vanilla and a faint resin hum, quieter, but unmistakable.
Cultural impact
Pearl Of Amber sits in The Dua Brand's Inspired Expression collection. In practice, that means wearers get an amber oriental with a lighter, dewier entry than most of its genre, an aquatic top that cools before the heat arrives. The opening reads almost like a sea breeze dragged across warm sand, cool and mineral on the surface but already hinting at the resins waiting underneath. As the florals surface in the heart, the composition gains a creamy, slightly tropical softness from the coconut and honey, while frankincense and elemi keep things from drifting too sweet.
