The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Swiss Arabian, founded in 1974 in the UAE, blends Swiss precision with Arabian artistry in every formulation. For Shaghaf Amber Infusion, the house partnered with perfumer Angéline Leporini to capture the concept of passionate intensity that defines the Shaghaf collection. The name itself means zealous, and Leporini built the entire fragrance around that single idea. She worked with Givaudan to source premium ingredients that would support an amber-centric structure where warmth is not a feature but the entire foundation.
The note selection reflects a deliberate philosophy of warmth through layering. Apricot and amber establish fruity-golden warmth at the opening, while cardamom and ginger ensure the sweetness never becomes cloying. The heart balances freshness with sweetness through apple and vanilla, with lily of the valley and davana adding complexity that prevents simplicity. Cedarwood bridges to the base, where frankincense, leather, and patchouli create depth that outlasts the top and heart notes. Each ingredient serves the amber-centric concept, building warmth through structure rather than relying on a single heavy note.
The evolution
The fragrance evolves through distinct phases that reflect its layered construction. Opening notes of apricot and amber establish immediate warmth, while cardamom and ginger add a spark of spice that creates tension against the sweetness. As the top notes fade, apple and lily of the valley emerge with fresh clarity, their delicate character softened by vanilla and davana. Cedarwood provides a woody bridge before the drydown reveals its true depth. Musk and amber form the backbone of the final phase, with frankincense adding resinous smoke and leather introducing tactile warmth. Patchouli grounds everything with earthy persistence, creating a finish that lingers for hours.
Cultural impact
Amber has anchored Arabian perfumery for centuries, prized for its warm, enveloping character and symbolic association with luxury and sensuality. Swiss Arabian, founded in 1982, bridges traditional Omani and Arabian perfumery traditions with European craftsmanship. The Shaghaf collection represents Swiss Arabian's modern approach, leaning into rich oriental compositions that appeal to contemporary fragrance enthusiasts seeking bold, statement-making scents. The house's choice to feature Angéline Leporini, a female perfumer, as the creative force behind Shaghaf Amber Infusion reflects a broader shift in the fragrance industry toward diverse voices.
