The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Swiss Arabian, established in 1974 in Sharjah, has spent decades refining the art of blending Arabian artistry with Swiss precision. Shaghaf Oud emerged in 2016 as the house celebrated the intoxicating power of two of the most revered ingredients in perfumery: red-gold saffron and the deep river of agarwood. The modest workshop founded nearly fifty years ago had grown into a house defined by its mastery of oriental materials, and this creation represented their ultimate tribute to the pairing that defines Arabian perfumery.
The note selection reflects a philosophy of contrast and harmony. Saffron brings immediate intensity, while the heart of oud and rose creates balance between strength and softness. The final drydown of praline and vanilla serves a crucial function: it sweetens and extends the experience of oud, making the precious agarwood accessible without diminishing its character. This progression from saffron to oud to praline represents a journey from boldness to refinement.
The evolution
The fragrance begins with saffron asserting its presence immediately, revealing a sharp, metallic sweetness that serves as a bold introduction. Within the first quarter hour, oud enters the composition alongside rose, creating a heart that balances precious woodiness with romantic floralcy. As the hours progress, praline and vanilla emerge from the drydown, weaving through the lingering oud to transform the experience into something warm and confectionery, completing a scent arc that travels from spice to wood to sweetness.
Cultural impact
Since its 2016 debut, Shaghaf Oud has become a staple in the Shaghaf collection, praised for its bold saffron‑oud duet and generous sillage. Wearers often cite the fragrance as a statement piece for evenings and special occasions, noting its ability to attract compliments. Its gourmand vanilla and praline base have helped it cross over from niche oud lovers to those seeking a sweet, approachable wood, securing its place among popular modern oud offerings.
